Upper Franconia is located in the north of the state of Bavaria in its Franconian part and borders the states of Saxony and Thuringia as well as the Bavarian administrative districts of Lower Franconia, Middle Franconia and Upper Palatinate. There is an external border with the Karlovy Vary region of the Czech Republic.
